Upper Extremity Pain
- Shoulder: Common cause of pain is Arthritis.
- Hand and wrist: Pain in this area can be from compressed nerves in the neck, nerve compression in the extremity and sometimes from nervous system dysfunction (a condition known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or CRPS).
Treatments for Upper Extremity Pain
- Shoulder: Arthritis in the shoulder can be treated with injection therapy and medications. Physical therapy may also be employed.
- Hand and wrist: Treatments include identifying the cause of pain and then injection therapy directed at the damaged nerves. In some cases spinal cord stimulation is needed or surgical referral to relieve compression that does not respond to more conservative therapies.
